POUGHKEEPSIE – more funding is being made available through a COVID-19 Emergency Rent program for low- and moderate-income households struggling through the pandemic.
Tenants who are eligible can receive up to six consecutive months of rent and utility assistance and can apply for funding directly. The program, which is administered by Hudson River Housing, also allows landlords to apply on behalf of tenants.
“The pandemic has taken a considerable toll on people. Continuing to provide housing assistance is essential, especially to individuals struggling to make ends meet,” Mayor Rob Rolison said.
Funding for this initiative has been made available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and awarded to the city for distribution through the Community Development Block Grant program.
The city initially allocated $220,000 in CARES Act funding into the program and is adding $150,000 to continue the relief effort.
“We appreciate the city stepping up and agreeing to put more resources into this important initiative, especially at a time when concerns about the pandemic have not waned,” Hudson River Housing Executive Director Christa Hines. “Rent relief efforts must continue during this time of need.”
