LAGRANGE – Dutchess County Legislator Mike Polasek has announced his intention to become the GOP candidate for the State Assembly seat currently held by Republican Kieran Lalor, who recently announced his retirement.  East Fishkill Councilman-at-Large Anil Beephan and Lalor’s Chief of Staff Kira Gorman have also announced their intention to seek the GOP nomination.

“As your representative in Albany, I want to ensure that our neighbors and small businesses have a seat at the table so that we can bring common sense back to our State Government,” said Polasek. “I know from personal experience how the lack of information and transparency that comes from the Democrats in Albany can be frustrating.”

Polasek grew up in Beekman, went to Arlington High School, and then attended the Culinary Institute of America. After college, he settled in LaGrange.  Polasek has owned Simply Gourmet Catering, in LaGrange since 2008.

The Republican legislator was first elected to represent District 3 in 2019 and was re-elected to his second term last week.  He serves on the legislature’s Budget, Finance, & Personnel committee as well as the Family and Human Services, and Government Services & Administration committees.

In October, Polasek introduced and sponsored a local law that would increase transparency from third party delivery services that protects both consumers and restaurants. This legislation came after meeting with several small business owners who were looking for a way to guarantee that the consumer will pay the same online as they would in a restaurant.

“Since being elected to the Dutchess County Legislature, Mike Polasek has worked tirelessly on behalf of the residents of LaGrange, and I know he’ll bring that same hardworking energy to the State Assembly on behalf of Southern and Eastern Dutchess,” said LaGrange Republican Committee Chair Marc Komosky, who is supporting Polasek’s bid for the GOP nomination.

The 105th Assembly District currently encompasses the towns of LaGrange, East Fishkill, Fishkill, Wappinger, Union Vale, Dover, Beekman, Washington, and Pawling as well as the villages of Pawling, Millbrook, Fishkill and Wappingers Falls.

The Independent Redistricting Commission is expected to release updated district maps based on the 2020 Census in January 2022.
