HOPEWELL JUNCTION – State Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor announced on Wednesday that he will not be seeking re-election.  The 45-year-old Republican from East Fishkill began his tenure in the Assembly in 2013.

“I ran for the New York State Assembly pledging to only serve a limited number of terms. Today I announce that this will be my final term in the Assembly,” Lalor said. His statement also included naming East Fishkill resident Kira Gorman as his choice to succeed him.  Gorman is Lalor’s chief of staff and has worked in the office for five years.  “The district that I have proudly served for the past eight years must be represented by someone who is willing to take on both parties and fearlessly fight for reform. That’s why I am enthusiastically supporting Kira Gorman to run for this seat.”

Gorman, the married mother of three school-aged children was a social studies teacher prior to joining Lalor’s office.  According to her biography, she considers herself an independent conservative Republican who is not a part of the political establishment.

Moments after Lalor’s announcement, East Fishkill Councilman-at-Large Anil “AJ” Beephan said that he will run for the 105th Assembly district seat currently occupied by Lalor.  The district includes the Dutchess County towns of Beekman, Dover, East Fishkill, Fishkill, La Grange, Pawling, Union Vale, Wappinger, and Washington.

“I am running for New York State Assembly to ensure our community continues to have responsive and level-headed representation in Albany. I look forward to working with colleagues in the State legislature to protect our constitutional rights, make our state more affordable, and ensure that municipalities are given the tools they need to better serve their constituents,” Beephan said.

He served as a legislative assistant and community representative for State Senator Sue Serino from 2016 to early 2019. He joined the East Fishkill Town Council in March of 2018 due to a vacancy left by Supervisor Nick D’Alessandro.

At the age of 23, he took office as the youngest council member in East Fishkill history. He was elected later that year in a special election and was re-elected in 2019. Beephan also serves as the deputy chairman of the Dutchess County Republican Committee and is the Hudson Valley Regional Chairman of the New York State Young Republicans.
