State and city police team up to bust man with money, drugs, and gun

NEWBURGH – A traffic stop in Newburgh on Thursday, July 15, 2021, resulted in a parolee being arrested and charged with several felonies.  The stop was made by New York State Police with the assistance of City of Newburgh police.

A man, now identified as 33-year-old Tyrone Burks, was a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop on Farrington Street in the city of Newburgh. He attempted to flee the scene on foot.  Burks was in possession of a shoulder bag that contained a loaded 9mm Ruger Handgun, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, heroin, and Fentanyl.  He was also in possession of over $9,000 in cash which was also seized relative to the arrest.

Burks, a resident of Newburgh was charged with multiple felony charges of Criminal Possession of Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Resisting Arrest, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Obstructing Governmental Administration.

Burks is currently on parole.  He was arraigned in Orange County Court and remanded to Orange County Jail without bail.
