Violent domestic incident lands man in jail

SAUGERTIES – A Town of Saugerties man was committed to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of bail after he allegedly attacked a woman, assaulted and choked her, threw her parents down a flight of stairs, and punched the man in the face and head several times.

Saugerties Police charged Matthew Connors, 38, with criminal obstruction of breathing/blood circulation, criminal mischief, attempted assault, assault and two counts of reckless endangerment.

It is alleged that at about 12:40 a.m. on May 23, Connors and the victim were involved in a physical domestic dispute during which he assaulted her, placing her in a chokehold.

She was able to break free, fleeing in her car, but not before Connors jumped on the vehicle and ripped off the side mirror.

He is then alleged to have entered the residents, confronted the woman’s parents, attacking both and throwing down the stairs, and then punching the man.

The victim and her parents were transported to Health Alliance Hospital n Kingston for treatment. The male victim was later transported to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for treatment of the serious physical injury.

Connors was remanded on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
