Communicated Content- Because of the pandemic, last year was not the most fruitful one when it came to new TV shows and movies. Luckily, 2021 is looking great so far. Several great TV shows have already been released, and we can expect many more in the months to come. Here are some of the best and most-anticipated TV shows to check out in 2021.

#1 It’s a Sin

Source: New Yorker

Russel T. Davis’ works are incredibly diverse (there is basically nothing in common between, say, Casanova and Years and Years) but equally high-quality. It’s a Sin, a five-episode miniseries released in January, is no exception. It is a tragic story about the early days of the AIDS epidemic in London focused on a group of friends from the LGBT community.

#2 The One

The One is a captivating story with an interesting premise – the show focuses on the creator and CEO of a new dating app that claims to find everyone’s ‘perfect match’ using genetic analysis. The One is not nearly as romantic as the most successful dating shows akin to Love Is Blind because it is more thriller than romance. If you are a fan of the genre, give it a try.

#3 Firefly Lane

If you are into comfort watch and nostalgia-driven TV shows, go watch Firefly Lane on Netflix. It follows the lives of two girls-turned-women from the 1970s into the 2000s. Perhaps the best thing about Firefly Lane is the chemistry between the two protagonists. It is well worth the audience’s time.

#4 The Irregulars

Even if you are a little tired of countless Sherlock Holmes adaptations, consider giving Netflix’s The Irregulars a try. It is less focused on Holmes and Watson than a cryptic group of original teenage characters helping them solve crimes that involve the supernatural. The Irregulars are a great thing to do at home during the pandemic if you crave some escapism. The spooky atmosphere of the show is especially good.

#5 The Handmaid’s Tale (Season 4)

The new season of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale was one of the most anticipated releases, and it finally hit the screens a couple of weeks ago. There is hardly anyone out there who does not know what the show is about. When the first season of this dystopian gem was released back in 2017, it became an instant hit.

#6 WandaVision

If you want to see what the married life of Scarlet Witch and Vision looks like, watch WandaVision by Disney+. It is unlike anything else set in the universe of Marvel, but it is still a treat for any fan. Critics’ response to WandaVision has been overwhelmingly positive too.

#7 Mare of Easttown

Another exceptional work by HBO, Mare of Easttown, is a perfect weekend watch for everyone who loves Kate Winslet. The role of the protagonist, a suburban detective investigating a recent death, may well be the best in Winslet’s career so far. Also, the undying ‘troubled protagonist’ top (think Rust Cohle from True Detective) is executed perfectly in Mare of Easttown.

#8 Cobra Kai (Season 3)

Source: Deadline

Any The Karate Kid fans here? If so, Cobra Kai is a must-watch. The story revisits the events of the cult classic, except it is told from Johnny’s perspective. Let’s just say not everything is what it seemed in The Karate Kid. By the way, if you want to watch more classics, watch out for classic movie screenings at Shadowland in the Hudson Valley.

#9 Gossip Girl

The remake of the most popular teenage show on CW is expected on HBO this July. Judging by the photos from the set, it is going to be as pretty-to-look-at as the original. The creators also claim to have addressed some of the diversity problems of Gossip Girl (2007-2012). And dramatic shenanigans ensue.

#10 Loki

Source: Variety

Loki will bring joy to every Tom Hiddleston fan. Thanks to the ‘alternate timeline’ plot twist, the creators of Loki managed to write it as a continuation of Avengers: Endgame. Hopefully, the miniseries will be just as good as the rest of the franchise. Loki will be released on June 9.
