NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh has a new fire chief. Francis “F.J.” Spinelli of the Town of Newburgh began his work in emergency services over 40 years ago and has completed a 28-year career with the Hartsdale Fire District in Westchester County.

He has served as the director of the Westchester Career Chief’s Fire Academy, serves as a state fire instructor and is a member of the State Incident Management Team.

“Chief Spinelli brings extensive fire service knowledge, a public safety background, professional expertise, and leadership skills to his new role at the City of Newburgh,” said City Manager Joseph Donat. “I am confident Spinelli’s proven track record, and many successes will carry over to his work here in Newburgh and prove to be an asset to our community.”

The new chief plans to work with the community, businesses, city government, the police department and agency members “to develop a strategic plan for the future delivery of fire and emergency services in the City of Newburgh.”

The fire department has been without a chief since Terry Ahlers retired several months ago.
