MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Legislature has selected Infinite Care Management as the company to operate the county’s Care Center at Sunset Lake.

In a voice vote Thursday morning, lawmakers ranked the three candidate companies – Infinite Care, The Grand Healthcare System, and VestraCare/The McGuire Group/Absolute, with Infinite Care securing seven of the nine votes.

The general consensus of the lawmakers was that all three candidate companies had the qualifications to do a good job, but one stood out to Chairman Rob Doherty.

“We asked all three if they would keep all staffing levels and only Infinite Care sent back a letter saying they would keep all staffing levels,” he said.

That is the same company that recently purchased the former Ulster County-owed Golden Hill nursing home in Kingston.

It will now be up to the nursing home’s local development corporation to negotiate a contract with Infinite Care.

The New York State Nurses Association commended the legislature’s choice issuing a statement saying Infinite Care is “a company who is known for its work with seniors and known for its relationship with its employees especially when it comes to safe staffing.”

Doherty said the county has been losing $10 million per year on the nursing home and that will disappear with the management takeover by the company.
