MAHOPAC – A dozen honorary members of the Mahopac Fire Department were recognized Saturday during the department’s annual inspection.

Before some 100 firefighters in attendance from departments throughout Putnam and northern Westchester, Mahopac Chief Gabe Rivera said, “enough is never said for those members who contribute in a way that affords the title of ‘honorary member,’ allowing us to reach the status that our department is so proud. We appreciate the efforts of these public servants who may stop by the firehouse and assist with chores, help to wash our equipment, assist at parades, take photographs or write stories about our dedicated volunteer firefighters or assist in a myriad of other ways.”

Rivera said the men and women of the department “want that recognition and honor to live on while boosting the notion of selfless giving back to our department and community to younger members helping them to understand the meaning of friendship in the fire service.”

Honorary members recognized included: Brian Allison, James Brunelle, Jack Casey, Ron DeFrancesco, Gerald Doyle, Julius Ellison, Eric Gross, Arthur Klaiber, Thomas Murphy, Paul Russer, Kevin Scofield and Edward Sheehan.

Glenn Scofield was also recognized as an honorary chief.
