POUGHKEEPSIE – An attempt by City of Poughkeepsie Police to stop a car occupied by a subject wanted on a warrant resulted in a foot pursuit, the seizure of two illegal handguns, and a large quantity of narcotics on Friday night in Poughkeepsie.

Sources tell Mid-Hudson News that around 9:45 p.m. on Friday, a city cop recognized an occupant in a car on Main Street as a man wanted on a warrant from Hyde Park.  The officer and his partner attempted to stop the vehicle.  The operator ignored the police and attempted to flee by turning onto Rose Street, which is a dead-end.

The vehicle, occupied by two men and a woman, stopped on Rose Street, and the two men got out and attempted to run from police.  The officers immediately requested additional officers to the scene.

One of the men allegedly dropped a pistol on the ground when he jumped from the vehicle.

Initial reports indicate that one man was apprehended near the vehicle and struggled with the officer before being taken into custody.  The second man was chased and apprehended by the officer’s partner.

Additional police units arrived on Rose Street and detained the female passenger who had remained in the SUV.

The two men, both of whom were reported as being 39-years-old, were taken into custody along with the 29-year-old woman.

A second illegal handgun was recovered at the scene.  A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of illegal narcotics.

All three subjects were transported to police headquarters for processing and interrogation by detectives who responded to the incident.

The vehicle which had been occupied by the three detainees was impounded on Rose Street and taken by flatbed to the city’s impound lot for further investigation.

The three subjects were being held in custody by the police pending arraignment.

No additional information has been released.
