UPDATE:

  • ALL EAST OF HUDSON METRO-NORTH TRAIN SERVICE HAS BEEN CANCELLED BECAUSE OF THE STORM.
  • ALL COMMMERCIAL VEHICLES ARE BANNED ON I-84 IN NEW YORK. PENNSYLVANIA AND CONNECTICUT ALSO IMPLEMENTED BANS ON THEIR SECTIONS OF THE HIGHWAY.

ALBANY – Governor Cuomo has declared a state of emergency in the counties of Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester as the snow piles up at a rate of two to three inches per hour.

The storm dumped a foot of snow on northern Orange County by early afternoon.

Driving across the region is very dangerous and the governor warned if the storm keeps up its intensity, Metro-North train service to and from Grand Central Terminal will end at 3 p.m.  and a travel ban could be imposed on Interstate 84 and the Taconic State Parkway.

Despite the two cancellations of scheduled flights (Allegiant and American) for today, New York Stewart International Airport remains open and prepared to handle any diversions. Roadways remain clear and snow removal operations are continuous.

The storm is expected to last through Tuesday mid-day and could reach accumulations of close to two feet.
