State Ag awards grants to expand access to fresh foods in underserved communities

ALBANY – The State Department of Agriculture and Markets and the Office of Temporary and Disability Services has announced awards in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention grant programs.

State Ag Commissioner Richard Ball said the programs are “critical in boosting the production and consumption of healthy foods across New York State, particularly in historically underserved communities.”

Two grants have been awarded in the Community Growers Grant Program: $50,000 for Our New Way Garden, Inc., Still Growing up; and $42,049 for Westchester Land Trust’s Food Pantry Garden.

In the Food Box Grant Program, two grants have been awarded in the region: $9,990 to Fareground’s Summer Food for Families; and $10,000 to Glynwood, CSA is a SNAP with Farm Fresh Nutrition Education program.
