FISHKILL – State Police say a Poughkeepsie 69-year-old Poughkeepsie man was killed when his Chevrolet Equinox SUV crossed into the opposite lane of traffic on Route 9D between Red Schoolhouse Road and Baxtertown Road in the Town of Fishkill on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 20 and truck a school bus head-on.
The driver of the SUV, Edwin Ramirez, Sr. was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are investigating why his vehicle veered into the opposite lane of travel.
The bus driver, Robert McCollum, Jr., 53, of Newburgh, was the only person on the bus. He was taken to the hospital for observation.
