Officer sustains broken bones in struggle with suspect

POUGHKEEPSIE – A 40-year-old man with a history of criminal behavior has been arrested after an altercation that injured a City of Poughkeepsie police officer.

Police say that on Saturday, December 12, an officer was dispatched to Dollar General at 534 Main Street at 12:34 p.m. for a report of a larceny in progress.

When the officer attempted to place Hyde Park resident Ramairo Stroman into custody, a struggle ensued.  The officer was forcibly shoved to the ground during the struggle.  The officer deployed non-lethal force by using a taser to attempt to neutralize Stroman.  The taser failed to penetrate the his clothing.

Additional officers responded and were able to subdue Stroman at the location.

Stroman has been charged with felony assault, resisting arrest, and petit larceny.  The officer initially involved in the struggle sustained a broken hand and fractured elbow.
