Clarkstown Police Chief Ray McCullagh discusses the case

NEW CITY – Clarkstown Police are investigating a double homicide involving two women, a 63-year-old and a 27-year-old, believed to be mother and daughter.

A vehicle belonging to one of the victims had been taken from the property prior to police arrival. It was located a short while later and detectives are interviewing a male described as a person of interest.

Police were called to a cottage in the rear of 104 Lake Road in Valley Cottage around 7:10 Tuesday morning where they found the two victims dead from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

An infant was found in the residence with no visible injuries, Police Chief Ray McCullagh said. The child was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Rockland DA Tom Walsh called the event “a very sad and tragic day in Rockland County,” while vowing to provide whatever assistance is needed by the Clarkstown Police department.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Clarkstown Police at 845-639-5800.
