New job growth in Sullivan County continues unprecedented climb

ALBANY – New job growth in Sullivan County continues to reach never before levels.

The State Labor Department reported Thursday a 17.1 percent increase in new jobs in the 12 months ending in August. The Ithaca Metro Area came in second in the state with 4.4 percent.

New jobs across the Hudson Valley rose by 1.4 percent during that time period.

Columbia County had a new job growth rate of 2.8 percent. That was followed by Ulster County with 2.6 percent growth, Greene County with 1.9 percent growth, the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division at 1.6 percent increase, and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area at 0.7 percent job growth.

Region-wide private sector jobs increased by 11,600, to 823,900.

Gains were largest in educational and health services (+6,500); leisure and hospitality (+5,500); natural resources, mining and construction (+2,900); financial activities (+2,100); and other services (+1,700).

Losses were largest in trade, transportation and utilities (-3,800); professional and business services (-2,500); and information (-500).
