MIDDLETOWN – The once-stately O&W Station in Middletown remains a shell of what it was in years gone by before fires destroyed much of the building.

In recent years, there was hope that it would be transformed into a health care facility by the former Middletown Family Health Center, but that never happened when hoped for federal funding did not materialize.

In recent months Mayor Joseph DeStefano has sought expressions of interest and has received a couple of them.

“The latest ones are not to historic standards but certainly make best efforts to restore a good part of the building including the façade, which is the most important to us,” the mayor said, noting the city is reviewing proposals and see who has the ability to do what they say they are going to do.

Short of finding someone to redevelop the facility for reuse, the O&W Station could become another memory of what Middletown once was.
