SAUGERTIES – Police have arrested a 21-year-old Saugerties man
who was wanted for the felonies of attempted burglary and attempted robbery
in connection with a home invasion that occurred around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday,
December 19.

Saugerties Police said the suspect, Andrew Rodriguez, was taken into custody
without incident on Friday in an apartment at 189 North Street in Kingston.
Following arraignment, he was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu
of $100,000 cash bail.

He had allegedly forced his way into the victim’s home and while
armed with a handgun, threatened to shoot the homeowner and the homeowner’s
home healthcare aide if they didn’t turn over medications.

A physical altercation ensued between the victim and Rodriguez while the
healthcare aide was able to call 911.

A neighbor who also heard the commotion called 911.

Rodriguez fled the scene in a waiting car parked in front of the home
before police arrived but was apprehended on Friday.
The Kingston Police Department Special Investigations Unit and State
Police BCI assisted the Saugerties Police in the investigation.
