Harckham, Slater, and Durante on Route 22

PATTERSON – Two of Putnam County’s state officials traveled to greater Brewster this week to announce a $14.8 million state funded project to resurface Route 22 in Southeast, Patterson, the Village of Brewster and Pawling.

State Senator Peter Harckham was joined by Assemblyman Matt Slater and Southeast Supervisor Nick Durante.

Harckham called the Route 22 project an “important step toward improving the roadways in our area, which has the most lane miles and number of bridges of any New York Department of Transportation region.”

He said better roads “are essential for our safety and for our economy. I will continue to fight for sustained long-term investments in our infrastructure to make repairs and upgrades, as well as new designs that will help meet the increased use by residents and business owners.”

Slater added that he was “proud to support the important investment. Hudson Valley taxpayers deserve safe roads, and I will continue to work with Senator Harckham and every partner in government to accomplish this objective.”

Supervisor Durante, who assumed office on January 1, was appreciative. “The road bisects our town and is used by thousands of drivers every day, whether they are residents of Southeast or commuters or tourists driving on their way. A newly paved road will protect people’s cars from the wear and tear of potholes.”

The project, which is slated for completion by the end of August, will resurface 12 miles of Route 22 from the Interstate 84/684 interchange in Southeast to Route 55 in Pawling.

The State DOT reported recently Route 22 carries some 20,000 vehicles daily with trucks accounting for 8 percent of the average annual daily traffic within the corridor.
