Woodbury Common is planning yet another expansion

STONY POINT – In the wake of the recent incident in which two area
residents were struck and injured by a vehicle as they walked across Route
9W in Stony Point, State Assemblyman-elect Colin Schmitt (R, New Windsor)
Tuesday called in the state Transportation Department to implement pedestrian
safety crossing improvements in that area.

Schmitt joined with local Stony Point officials in calling for those protections.

“No family, no local resident should fear their life is in danger
or put the safety of their family in danger possibly for catastrophic
incident just to go get a bite to eat or shop at a local store that they
like to frequent,” he said.
Town Highway Superintendant Larry Brissing said those in the area “know
how dangerous crossing 9W at this location can be.” He joined with
Town Supervisor Jim Monaghan and Police Chief Brian Moore in urging the
state DOT to develop a solution for safe pedestrian crossings as soon
as possible.
