PORT JERVIS – The average homeowner in the City of Port Jervis will see a $3.83 monthly property tax increase, that’s about $47 more annually, in 2019 with the $16.5 million budget approved by the city council Monday night.
The 2.97 percent increase in the tax levy will mean all of the city’s
programs will be maintained, said Mayor Kelly Decker.
“We are able to build our sewer fund a little bit more as requested by the state in order to be able to get the funds that we need available to the city to do the infrastructure repairs, it grows our fund balance a little bit, it gives some contractual bumps to some people that have been here for quite some time and have been paid a lower wage.”
All in all, Decker said Port Jervis is doing much better with an increase in its commercial businesses as a result of the stabilization of the city’s budgetary process.
