POUGHKEEPSIE – By the end of 2019, a high-tech road monitoring system will be completed on Interstate 84 from the Pennsylvania to Connecticut border through Orange, Dutchess and Putnam counties.
The state Department of Transportation is in the early stages of installation of the system that will monitor traffic and road conditions, said spokeswoman Gina DiSarro.
“Right now most of the information that comes to us and comes to a lot of emergency services that might be patrolling a roadway comes through word of mouth and reporting and now there will be technologies to help us keep track of what’s happening,” DiSarro said.
The technology will also be installed on I-684 northbound from exit two at State Route 120 in Westchester County to exit nine at I-84 in Putnam County, and on the southbound side of Sprain Brook Parkway between the Taconic State Parkway and the I-287 interchanges in the Village of Elmsford.
