TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Violet Avenue was closed for more than an
hour Monday afternoon while the Fairview Fire Department, assisted by
the Town of Poughkeepsie Police worked at the scene of a motor vehicle
accident.

At 1:48 p.m. the fire department responded to a motor vehicle accident
at the intersection of Violet Avenue and Fulton Street near Violet Avenue
School.

A street sweeping truck owned by Easystreet Cleaning Inc. of Poughkeepsie
had tipped over and was precariously resting on a sedan.
Firefighters worked to secure the truck and stabilize the operator of
the car before extrication occurred.
The driver of the car was removed and transported to a local hospital
for further treatment. The truck driver was uninjured.

A heavy wrecker from Brandl’s Towing was used to lift the street sweeper
off of the car and place it upright on the roadway.

Fairview Fire Chief Chris Maeder said both Violet Avenue and Fulton Street
were reopened to traffic at 3 p.m.
