MONROE – One Monroe man is dead and another is in custody in connection
with a fatal stabbing early Saturday.

Monroe Village and State Police were called to 20 Lake Street around 3
a.m. for a report of a man suffering from stab wounds and they found the
victim, Louis Rivera, 25, of Monroe, dead inside the multi-apartment building

Following an investigation, police arrested Samuel Del Cid Hernandez,
31, also of Monroe on a charge or murder.

He was remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail.

State Police at the crime scene in the heart of the village

Because of the ongoing nature of the investigation in conjunction with
the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, State Police Troop
F BCI Captain Brian Shortall would not provide a motive, but said there
was no indication that the homicide was gang related. He also did not
know if the men were acquaintances.

Acting Monroe Village Chief Anthony Amatetti termed the incident isolated
and said the public has no need to worry.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the State Police
Monroe barracks at 845-782-8311 or Monroe Village Police at 845-492-8477.
