MONTICELLO – A Bronx man has been sentenced by Sullivan County Court Judge Michael McGuire to nine years in state prison and three years of post-release supervision on his conviction for the possession of heroin with intent to sell it.
Jason Bermudez, 37, was sentenced as a prior felony offender having convictions for perjury and criminal possession of a weapon in Queens County. He pled guilty in the Sullivan county case to criminal possession with intent to sell as a felony.
Bermudez was pulled over on Landfield Avenue for a vehicle and traffic violation on August 3, 2017. After stopping and talking to Monticello Police, he took off at a high rate of speed, taking officers on a pursuit through the village until he crashed into another vehicle at the Citgo gas station on Route 42.
A search of his vehicle revealed 44 grams of cocaine and 18 grams of heroin.
District Attorney James Farrell said in addition to Bermudez’s possession of the drugs, his fleeing from the police created a real danger to others in the community. “For all of this criminal conduct he will spend the better part of the next decade in a state prison,” the DA said.
