KINGSTON – The chairman of the Ulster County Democratic Committee, Frank Cardinale, won another two-year term Thursday night when he held off a challenge from Kingston City Chairman Joseph Donaldson.
In a letter to committee members sent before the vote, Donaldson wrote that, “While the current Ulster County party leadership has maintained control of the county executive and comptroller offices, we believe the party should do more to broaden those successes by better adapting to changing demographics.”
Donaldson said the “bickering between the executive and comptroller is concerning to all Democrats and needs to mediate. We must also work toward establishing a clear and stable Democratic majority in the county legislature.”
Donaldson also said the committee must do more to raise funds. He said the Ulster party raised $8,000 while Dutchess County Democrats have $50,000 in the bank as of their September 2018 filing.
Cardinale said on Friday the Ulster committee is doing just fine. “We’re in a good place right now and we’re going to ride it as long as we can,” he said.
Cardinale served as Kingston City chairman for six years and is now entering his seventh year as county chairman.
Donaldson’s running mate for vice chair, Gladys Figueroa, did defeat incumbent Karen Markisenis. Figueroa is a retired New York City police officer.
