GOSHEN – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler is opposed to a newly created state Commission on Prosecutorial Conduct.
Hoovler said the commission, which the governor said will investigate prosecutorial conduct to address claims of malicious prosecutions, prevent wrongful convictions and address allegations of wrongdoing, is a violation of the separation of power.
“It has multiple members of the judiciary, the legislature and people appointed all working on this commission, which is a constitutional problem, but it also has a chilly effect on Das investigating corruption,” the DA said. “All in all, it is a poorly drafted piece of legislation.”
The state District Attorneys Association is expected to challenge the law in court.
