NEW WINDSOR – Republican State Senate candidate Thomas Basile has announced a Regional Sustainability Initiative for the 39th State Senate District including portions of Orange, Ulster and Rockland counties.
“Residents and government need to work together to advance a long-term vision now for how planning, zoning and natural resources in our area will be handled,” he said. “Doing that protects people’s quality of life, grows the local economy and maintains home values for everyone in our area.”
Basile’s plan calls for grant funding for local master plan development, aquifer protection plans and architectural standards; creating a local grant program for historic downtowns and business district revitalization; regional funding for water and sewer system upgrades; and increasing funding for local parks, land preservation and view-shed protection.
“Economic development needs to start in local communities with protecting and enhancing character of our main streets and environment,” he said.
Basile said program elements would be fully funded by diverting money from New York’s “failed, multi-billion-dollar corporate welfare programs to this local inititiave.”
