VALHALLA – For the eighth year, the group Volunteer New York! Will be marking the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with its “Serve + Remember” program, a day when people are urged to give back something to the community.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer urged everyone to participate in the volunteer efforts on September 11 by supporting one of 35 participating local non-profits in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties.
“If 9/11 as a horror was the worst of humanity – it was evil
done to people, done to fellow human beings – then the only opposite
of that is to do something good and gracious for fellow human beings,
and that is what this volunteer spirit is,” Latimer said.
To participate, volunteers may sign up at www.volunteernewyork.org/service .
