ALBANY – State Attorney General Barbara Underwood and a coalition of attorneys general have won a nationwide temporary restraining order preventing the distribution of 3-D printed gun files online.
Underwood called it “a major victory for common sense and public safety.”
Before the TRO was issued, Governor Cuomo announced he had issued a cease and desist letter to Defense Distributed, the company allowed by the Trump administration to publish the instructions.
The governor said he would advance legislation to strengthen the state’s gun safety laws by outlawing the private production of all 3D and so-called ghost guns that are untraceable and invisible to metal detectors.
“The last thing we need now is people making guns in their own home that circumvent all laws, are untraceable and invisible,” Cuomo said.
State Police Superintendent George Beach issued a reminder to New Yorkers that assault weapons are illegal in the state.
