NYACK – Two Democratic state legislators are calling on the Thruway Authority to cancel its $72 million, three-year contract with Conduent, the company that administers the state’s cashless tolling system, and rebid it in an open process.
Senator David Carlucci of Rockland County and Assemblyman Thomas Abinanti of Westchester said ever since cashless tolling was instituted, it has been nothing but trouble.
Carlucci said he has become the customer service agent for the Thruway Authority in terms of constituent problems related to motorists crossing the new Mario Cuomo bridge over the Hudson River.
“Today is the day to start to cancel this contract, allow other vendors to apply, and have it be done in a transparent way where we can save money for the taxpayers of New York,” he said. “We can have this beautiful new bridge, the Mario Cuomo Bridge at Tappan Zee, but if can’t afford to cross it, that will absolutely crush out economy.”
Carlucci said he has obtained a copy of the more than 1,500-page contract with Conduent, but 400 pages of it are redacted.
