Esopus fire claims one life

ESOPUS – An early morning
house fire at 719 Old Post Road in the Town of Esopus claimed one life.
Two other people inside the residence when the fire was reported just
before 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday escaped uninjured.

Esopus firefighters responded to the scene within five minutes of the
dispatch to find a “well involved” house fire and a report
of one person inside the building.

Firefighters, battling heavy fire conditions, entered the building and
located the occupant, but the individual had succumbed to injuries sustained
in the fire.

The incident is being investigated by the Ulster County Sheriff’s
Office and the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit.

Esopus Firefighters were assisted by Rifton, Port Ewen, Highland, New
Paltz, Milton, St. Remy, Tillson and Kingston fire departments, as well
as Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Mobile Life Support Services,
New Paltz Rescue, Hurley Fire and Rescue, Ulster County fire Coordinator’s
Office, Ulster County, Fire Investigation Unit, the Ulster County Sheriff’s
Office and State Police.
