Robbery suspect shot in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE – One of
two men who went to a basement apartment at 759 Main Street in New Rochelle
early Monday morning with the intention to rob its occupants was instead
shot.

When city police were called to the scene at 12:49 a.m. they found tenant
Nicholas Collado, 21, along with three other individuals including robbery
suspect Darius Rogers. He was bleeding from a gunshot wound to his hand;
the second suspect fled the scene.

Investigation revealed that Rogers, armed with a handgun, and the second
male suspect, entered the apartment with the intention of robbing it.
There were narcotics in the residence. During the course of the holdup,
Rogers was shot by Collado.

Rogers was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries
and he faces charges of armed robbery, burglary and criminal possession
of a weapon.

Collado was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance
with intent to sell and criminal possession of marijuana. Another person
in the apartment, Brittany Lebron, was charged with criminal possession
of a controlled substance with intent to sell and criminal possession
of marijuana.

Investigators are attempting to identify and locate the second robbery
suspect who fled the scene, and police said additional charges are possible
pending the outcome of the investigation.

A search warrant was obtained and the investigation is continuing.
