KINGSTON – Following the successful launch of the Ulster County Bystanders Against Sexual Assault program in New Paltz, County Executive Michael Hein announced the program will be introduced in the City of Kingston.
The purpose is to deter sexual abuse at area bars and taverns by educating staff, said Hein.
“It provides training to staff members in these establishments so they can see the warning signs and they can head off sexual assaults before they happen. It’s a pro-active approach and we couldn’t be more pleased with it,” Hein said.
The program was started months ago in New Paltz because it is a college town with several watering holes.
Kingston Mayor Seven Noble said the program “will be a great opportunity to provide more education and awareness for employees at our local establishments to identify and prevent potential situations that could lead to sexual assault.”
