KINGSTON – Construction is underway on an $11.8 million project to replace the superstructures of three bridges along Route 209 in Ulster County.
The bridges carry the road over the Esopus Creek in the Town of Ulster and one in the Town of Hurley.
Route 209 provides links to the City of Kingston, SUNY Ulster in Stone Ridge and the Hurley Rail Trail.
Construction on the two bridges in the Town of Ulster, between Sawkill Road and Enterprise Drive, will result in a single lane closure in each direction while the bridge projects are underway. The bridge in the Town of Hurley, between Route 28 and Main Street, will require a full closure with a detour that is expected to last for 60 days, closing at the end of June and reopening at the end of August.
All work is expected to be complete in December.
The construction projects “will enable thousands of individuals to come to Kingston and our surrounding communities each day to live, work and visit,” said Kingston Mayor Steven Noble.
