PHILIPSTOWN – A Stillwell, Oklahoma man was arrested after a confrontation with Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr.
The sheriff was at his home in the Town of Philipstown at 6:15 p.m. on May 15 when he saw a vehicle trespassing on his property. When he went to investigate, the driver, Brant Carter, 33, appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and pulled away in a reckless manner at a high rate of speed.
Langley jumped into his police car and followed Carter to Route 9 at Cross Road where Carter pulled over, but as the sheriff ordered him to shut off his vehicle, Carter sped off nearly striking the sheriff, who had to jump out of the way. The sheriff followed, eventually subduing Carter after a brief struggle in which the sheriff sustained some injuries.
Carter was charged with felony assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, DWI and other crimes. He was released after posting bail.
