MIDDLETOWN – A 23-year-old
Middletown man was killed late Tuesday when he lost control of his Mazda
Miata convertible while on West Main Street near Maple Hill Park.

Middletown City Police, who did not release the name of the victim, said
at around 11:10 p.m. his vehicle crossed lanes, struck a number of trees
and a telephone pole. The impact caused the car to roll over and strike
a Chevrolet Equinox head-on. The Driver of the Mazda was ejected at that
point.

City police said based on initial investigation and eyewitness accounts
it is believed speed was a significant contributing factor causing the
driver to lose control of his car.

No charges were filed against the driver of the SUV, who was alone and
not injured.

The police are continuing to investigate to determine any other factors
in the accident, and an autopsy and toxicology report are scheduled.
