Two indicted in Monticello store robbery, police chase

MONTICELLO – A Sullivan County grand jury indicted two Brooklyn men on charges of robbing the AT&T store on Jefferson Street in Monticello last week and then leading police on a chase that ended in Orange County.
Tyquan Hilliard, 27, and Khalif Watson, 23, are alleged to have pulled a gun on a clerk and stole merchandise worth over $3,000 and forced a store employee and two customers into a storage room, bound them and robbed one victim of a personal cell phone. They are also accused of trying to avoid apprehension by destroying a victim’s phone and leading police on a chase that resulted in a Monticello police officer being injured.
Hilliard and Watson have been charged with four counts of robbery, three counts of coercion, burglary, two counts of assault, tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment and unlawful fleeting a police officer in a motor vehicle. They were sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
Sullivan District Attorney James Farrell said If convicted, they each face up to 15 years in state prison on the robbery and burglary charges, up to seven years on the coercion charges, up to four years on the tampering charge, and up to seven years on the assault and reckless endangerment charges.
