NEWBURGH – Republican Stony Point Town Councilman Thomas Basile will formally announce his candidacy today for the State Senate seat currently held by William Larkin, who announced on Thursday that he is retiring at the end of the year. Larkin and several other officials will join him at his formal announcement this afternoon in Newburgh.
Basile had said for months that if Larkin were to retire, he would run to replace the 90-year-old senior statesman.
The 39th Senate District includes portions of Orange, Ulster and Rockland counties.
