NEW WINDSOR – A new ethics law was approved Wednesday evening by the New Windsor Town Board. The measure “will be able to modernize our ethics code and ensure all citizens can count on honest and accountable government from their town,” said Town Supervisor George Green.
The updated code includes addition of a “revolving door” policy that places restrictions on municipal officers or employees pursuing or accepting private post-government opportunities that conflict with previous official acts or duties.
It bars acceptance of gifts or gratuities related to official duties and provides authority for government ethics oversight.
The legislation modernizes the board of ethics to meet state requirements and allows for a fully functioning board to be appointed and operate. The town board will review interested parties seeking to serve on the board of ethics and make appointments over the next several months.
