PORT JERVIS – Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis received final approvals to commence its transformational $40 million project.  The state Health Department has issued its certificate of need and all financing is in place, said Bon Secours Charity Health System CEO Dr. Mary Leahy.
Construction is expected to begin in May with completion in the spring of 2020.
Upgrades will include a new emergency department, new entrance and lobby, conversion of semi-private patient rooms to private. The hospital will retain its current 86 beds.
The bariatric center will be upgraded and all new imaging equipment will be installed.
Dr. Leahy said the restructured hospital will include a medical village that will consist of a wellness center, retail pharmacy and access to enhanced services.
“We are looking at things like bringing in mental health services so we are working with the Orange County Department of Mental Health. We are looking at other partnerships with federally qualified health centers like Cornerstone to be able to provide dental services, pediatric services, expand our women’s health offerings and crisis stabilization so this is providing many things that haven’t currently been available in the local community.”
Dr. Leahy said the project will mean a significant upgrade to patient care in the Tri-State area.
The Bon Secours Charity Health System is part of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network. Its sister hospital in Poughkeepsie, MidHudson Regional, is undergoing $8 million in renovations and a $133.6 million project at the HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston will begin shortly.
Westchester Health’s flagship campus in Valhalla is also investing $230 million on construction of a 280,000 square-foot Ambulatory Care Pavilion.
