Search for suspects came to a quick end

NEW CITY – A Key Bank branch in New City was held up in an armed robbery Friday afternoon and in 10 minutes Clarkstown Police had three suspects in custody.
Patrol officers spotted the suspected getaway vehicle on New Hempstead Road near an entrance to the Palisades Interstate Parkway.
“An armed robbery of a bank is very rare in Clarkstown,” Police Chief Raymond McCullagh said. “To get an arrest within 10 minutes of the commission of a robbery is also very rare,” he said, praising the officers who caught the suspects.  McCullagh also complimented the tellers at the bank for staying calm during the holdup.
The chief said the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York may prosecute the case.
Assisting Clarkstown Police were the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, Ramapo Town and State Police and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.
