NEW YORK – Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board member Neil Zuckerman of Garrison says Metro-North Railroad must have positive train control up and running by the end of this year.
Zuckerman stated his case at Wednesday’s monthly MTA Board meeting.
“The number one thing that this administration, this organization must do to Metro-North in this humble man’s opinion is implement PTC by the end of the year,” Zuckerman said. “We have agreed to do that, we are mandated to do that and we must do that.”
Positive Train Control is a technology designed to automatically slow down trains as they approach curves and other potentially dangerous situations.
Speed, entering a curve, was blamed for the deadly Spuyten Duyvil Metro-North disaster in 2013.
