WHITE PLAINS – A Newburgh man was sentenced in federal court on Friday to 39 years in prison for committing two armed robberies in Orange County.
Lawrence Brown, 46, was convicted on March 9, 2017.
In November 2013, he entered a Rite Aid pharmacy in New Windsor dressed as a Pepsi deliveryman and asked to speak to the store manager. He shoved a firearm into her side and forced her into the manager’s officer to empty money from the safes. He made off with over $5,900, but not before he bound the manager’s hands behind her back using a zip-tie, and left her in the office.
Five months later, in April 2014, Brown hid in the manager’s office of a ShopRite supermarket in Newburgh where he lay in waiting for employees who could open the store’s safe.
Over the next few hours, three workers who did not have the combination to the safes separately entered the office. Brown brandished a gun at each of them then bound each with zip-ties while he continued to wait for a manager.
When the manager arrived, Brown pointed the gun at him and ordered him to empty money totaling over $20,000 into a shopping bag. He then bound the manager’s hands before fleeing.
In addition to prison time, Brown was ordered to make restitution of over $26,000 and serve three years of supervised release.
