NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh made $1.6 million in 2017 from the sale of city-owned properties.
At virtually every city council session, an individual or developer would gain approval to purchase a piece of city property that had been taken for failure to pay back taxes.
City Manager Michael Ciaravino said the sales are to the credit of the city’s economic and community development department.
“If we had marketing it in a more aggressive way, I wonder what that number could be,” he said. “That speaks to a lot of hard work and I want to recognize them for their effort.”
The city council had considered hiring a professional realtor to market the city’s properties for sale, but chose not to take that route. Ciaravino said with new members being seated on the council, he believes the issue should be visited once again.
