POUGHKEEPSIE – Ann Finney officially took over as chairwoman of the Poughkeepsie Common Council Tuesday night and she expressed concern about the continued issues at the Rip Van Winkle apartments.
The complex suffered a basement fire two months ago that resulted in management moving all the residents out. If they could not stay with family members, they were housed temporarily at the Civic Center. Residents were gradually allowed back in, but there are still heating issues.
Finney told the council she is worried about the ongoing situation there.
“As a resident of Poughkeepsie and an incoming council member, I would like to express my concern for the situation for the RIP residents,” she said.
She would like the situation resolved once and for all.
“Clearly the residents are entitled to a stable resolution and I know we are all committed to a stable resolution,” Finney said.
At the same time, the new chairwoman said she was pleased to see that council members have been involved in efforts to resolve the ongoing issues at Rip Van Winkle.
