GOSHEN – A proposal to expand the Orange County pay-to-play law has been put off by 60 days.
County lawmakers meeting in the Rules Committee on Monday discussed the proposal at length with some expressing concern about who the change would affect.
Legislator Jeffrey Berkman first proposed the expanded law.
“My message today was all business entities – partnerships, corporations, and limited liability companies, which I was seeking to include, all be held to the same standard when it comes to giving checks to county officials that are doing work for the county – signing contracts, doing work, providing services to the county,” Berkman said.
Attorneys for the legislature and the county administration will spend the next two months seeking to iron out issues before members consider voting on changes to the local law.
