ELLENVILLE – Police in Ellenville have arrested an Ellenville man
in connection with a series of larcenies from 12 vehicles in the village
during the early morning hours on Saturday, October 28. The crimes occurred
in and around Lincoln Street, Washington Avenue and Dewitt Street.

Additional incidents occurred in the afternoon hours of Monday, October
30 and Tuesday, October 31 in the parking lot of Ellenville Central School.

The suspect, later identified as Ranson Arias, 17, was checking all the
car doors and if they were unlocked, he would enter and steal whatever
was inside.

At 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, October 31, while on routine patrol, two Ellenville
Police officers spotted a suspect wearing the same clothing and matching
the description from videos that were obtained during the investigation.

Officers stopped him and while being interviewed, they smelled marijuana.
A search revealed baggies containing marijuana on him. He was arrested
and brought to the police station where he was interviewed regarding the
larcenies.

He later confessed to committing all of the reported cases and led police
to some of the property that was taken during the crimes.

Arias was charged with three counts of felony grand larceny, four counts
each of petit larceny and attempted petit larceny, 11 counts of trespass
and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

He was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.
