GOSHEN – A Newburgh man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Thursday to 16 years in state prison after he pled guilty to charges of manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. Fabian Corley, 25, was also sentenced by Judge Craig Stephen Brown to five years of post-release supervision for killing Hubert Hines, 31, of Newburgh.
Corley admitted to killing Hines on March 7 outside Corley’s residence. Corley had also been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell it and other drug-related charges.
A Surveillance camera revealed he had just engaged in what appeared to be a drug deal when he was approached by Hines, who produced what appeared to be a handgun. Corley pulled out his own illegally possessed pistol and as Hines turned and ran, Corley shot him in the back, killing him. It turns out Hines’ gun was a pellet gun.
“This case is yet another example that narcotics trafficking invariably leads to violence,” said Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler. “My office will continue to make the prosecution of violent crimes, particularly violent crimes connected to narcotics trade a high priority.”
