Two with prior DWI convictions, arrested in Sullivan County

MONTICELLO – Two people were arrested by Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies in separate cases involving post-DWI conviction violations.
At about 7:10 a.m. on Monday, October 23 a sheriff deputy stopped a pickup truck that had run a stop sign at the intersection of Fraser and Old Liberty Road in the Town of Thompson.
A computer check of the driver revealed that he had a conditional license to drive due to a DWI conviction and that he was required to use a vehicle ignition interlock device. The driver, Louis Castillo, Jr., 30, of Fallsburg, was also on probation. Castillo was charged with a misdemeanor for operating the vehicle without an interlock and failing to stop at a stop sign. He was released to the custody of a relative pending a future court date in the Town of Thompson Justice Court. The case was referred to the Sullivan County Probation Department for further action.
On Friday October 27, at about 6:20 a.m., a sheriff deputy was conducting speed enforcement on Forestburgh Road near the Mongaup Eagle viewing area. The deputy stopped a car that was traveling at 59 miles per hour in a 35 zone.
A computer check revealed that the driver, James Brush, 54, of Glen Spey had a revoked license and was on probation for a DWI conviction. As part of his sentence and probation, Brush is required to have a vehicle ignition interlock system installed on any vehicle he is driving, which was not the case at the time of the stop. He was charged with the misdemeanors of aggravated unlicensed, operating a vehicle without an interlock and speeding, a violation. He was released on his own recognizance pending a November court appearance in the Town of Forestburgh. This case was also referred to the Sullivan County Probation Department for further action.
